Hi, this is Scarlett Townsend, Lucy Wootton, and Ella Iuorno. We are honored to be nominated as candidates for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) 2023 Virginia Visionary Students of the Year campaign. Student Visionaries of the Year is a seven-week campaign that will run from February through March, in which high school students across the country compete to raise money and awareness for LLS.  Today we ask for your support of our campaign and LLS’s mission to find a cure for blood cancers and improve the quality of life for patients and their families.   

Every three minutes, someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer, which includes Leukemia, Lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, and Myeloma. LLS is the leader in advancing breakthroughs in blood cancer treatments. LLS is also committed to patient and family quality of life, providing free education as well as financial support to families facing a blood cancer diagnosis.  

We are participating in LLS this year to honor our close family and friends who have had or have blood cancer. We strive to further LLS’s cause to support and advocate for Leukemia fighters and survivors and to fund research. Leukemia and Lymphoma do not only affect the patient, but also their families and friends. Our goal is to make them feel as supported as possible by raising money for this campaign as well as to create a positive difference by working to fund future research.  

We have formed a team of committed friends and family to partner with us in our campaign. Together, we have set a fundraising goal of $50,000. We feel confident that we can achieve this ambitious goal with the help of our amazing friends and family members.
